Your team doesn't respect you. They are not aligned with your values. They might fake alignment, but it's not really true, and they will either fight you openly, plot behind your back, or leave you eventually.


If your team is not united, don't trust each other, and/or don't focus on results, among other dysfunctions, you suffer. You'll lose the competitive edge and get overtaken by competitors. Full departments - or in a worst case scenario, the whole company - will never reach their goals.

Alain's Story

The hallmark of all coaching success cases.

Before consulting with Vasco, Alain was feeling trapped. Disoriented. Like his decisions didn’t have power. He couldn’t get his initiatives approved. He was stagnated in a VP role after years, with no progress.

He lost passion for the position, which was making him combative and challenging of his C-Level officers. He felt there wasn’t a fit with the company culture anymore.

We started by working on Alain’s values and long-term goals. What was the play here? did he want to ascend to C-Level? Did he want to shift to another role, another company?

Alain decided he wanted to ascend to a C-Level role. He wanted to roll out a set of initiatives that that he didn’t have the courage to even present given the eroded relationship.

We performed a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy journaling practice to gain insight into Alain’s thoughts and moods, and slowly addressed cognitive distortions, including negative thought patterns.

We drilled and worked on his influence techniques. We revived eroded relationships with transparency, influence techniques, efficient negotiation, and unification of purposes under the same goals.

Alain presented his initiatives. The two key ones were supported to move forward. We entered the long game now.

In the middle of setting up Alain’s initiatives and maximising alignment with his team, a close family member became suddenly sick.

It was necessary to suggest and adjust Alain’s coping mechanisms to minimise stress and increase his tolerance and flexibility in the face of extremely stressful circumstances.

We worked with Alain, and periodically with some key team members, to build alignment for Alain’s decisions and to make sure his team was committed to results.

We fixed distorted and massaged information coming from reports and rebuilt a culture of transparency and honesty. Some collaborators were had to let go (toxic attitude and lack of value fit, respectively).

Alain’s team started to achieve positive results, but information silos were not helping.

We had to focus again on strengthening relationships in order to obtain the information and collaboration necessary to drive Alain’s initiatives forward. This was subtle and hard, as it included probing into other departments’ dysfunctions and distortions.

Even with advanced negotiation and maximised influence and empathy, a lot of concessions were necessary to streamline functioning and advance these initiatives.

Just as one of Alain’s initiatives helped drive down operation costs and increase revenue by 175% for the first two quarters while Alain was coached, a new opportunity came up.

Alain’s superior, a C-Level executive, suddenly left the company due to personal problems. Out of 3 candidates, Alain was chosen for the new role.

Having achieved the C-Suite, Alain’s life did not get any easier. The company suddenly lost ground to competitors with an increased edge, and Alain’s family member’s condition worsened again.

In Alain’s words, “You cannot predict all problems. Something will always appear and ruin the plan. But with this coaching I am 200% better prepared to deal with the things that do come up”.
